What is Streetwear?
Wikipedia says the following: “Streetwear is a style of casual clothing which became global in the 1990s. It grew from New York hip hop fashion and Californian surf culture to encompass elements of sportswear, punk, skateboarding and Japanese street fashion.”
I like that description and in my mind I wanted to add the following elements to it.
- High-Quality garments
- Focus on oversized styles
- Start with Hoodies, T-Shirts, Caps
- Merge (not what you are thinking pleb) Hip-Hop style with Bitcoin
- Bring coolness and swag to the Bitcoin world
“Additionally, the majority of followers are under 30, live in urban areas, and belong to a subculture group (ex. skateboarders or hip-hop music fans).”
It’s perfect, we are also a subculture group. We might not be under 30 anymore, but hell, we all feel like we are still in our twenties. I’d say you are never too old to put on a cool hoodie or cap.
Why merge Bitcoin & Streetwear?
Streetwear acts as a reflection of the current cultural landscape. What’s considered street fashion changes as the people who wear it change too. Part of what’s led to the industry’s success is its inclusivity. Streetwear fashion is regarded as size-inclusive. Not sure that it was designed with this in mind, or if the designers thought oversize cuts look dope. Amongst plebs is part of camp: oversize looks fucking rad!!
Next, Bitcoin merchandise is versatile. It can be many things to many people. Some artworks may find supporters far far away from the Bitcoin meme world. Other artworks will perhaps only work with people familiar with the overall topic. The goal always is: Make everything as accessible to as many people as possible. Engage in a conversation with a stranger who sees an Amongst Plebs artwork on your shirt or hoodie. Let’s make Amongst Plebs The Bitcoin Standard in the Bitcoin merchandise game.
The dream: People approach you and ask what a specific artwork means. By explaining it, you might orange pill someone along the way. Two birds one stone. All this is possible by buying ALL THE GEAR we offer NOW (jokes).
You have probably read the phrase: Bitcoin will become the global reserve currency one meme at a time.
We say, we orange pill the world one T-Shirt & Hoodie at a time. Bitcoin merchandise can be that bridge, that entry into the world of Bitcoin.
Streetwear is deeply connected with pop culture and can be seen through the various styles of music that influence street style. Historically, streetwear has been influenced by hip-hop. It is time to enter a new era. Cypherpunks, Bitcoin nerds, libertarians, Austrian economists etc. all influencing Bitcoin inspired Streetwear.
What could go wrong you may ask?? Damn straight! What could go wrong!
For now, let’s go on this journey together. Make Bitcoin merchandise cool (not again), but for the first time.
If you want to get involved, holla at us and we make something happen.
Until then, tick fu&%ing tock until the next drop.
Your humble pleb
